Congratulations on your new ceramic dental implant by Dr. Julia Gorelik at Gorelik Dentistry. While your dental implant is a strong and reliable replacement for a damaged tooth, it can still be vulnerable to dental problems, particularly gum disease. What does this mean for you? You will want to care for your dental implant like you would the rest of your pearly whites. Today, we would like to share some oral care tips to keep your implant in tip top condition and your smile bright.
Brush: First, you will want to brush your teeth twice a day. We recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush to prevent scratching of the ceramic. Be sure to clean gently around your gum line. If you clean your teeth after every meal you will be avoiding the risk of stains building up. If you use an electric toothbrush, make sure it has soft bristles and do not use an ultrasonic toothbrush as it can loosen the ceramic bonding agents.
Rinse: We highly recommend rinsing food particles and oral debris from your teeth after snacking or eating. We realize you can’t always brush your teeth, but you can always carry a water bottle or have access to water so that you can remove the staining agents of food debris.
Non-Abrasive Paste: To protect your ceramic, use a toothpaste that is low on abrasive RDA index. This means avoiding pastes which promote “extra whitening” so that you don’t scratch your ceramic implant.
Floss: You will still want to floss your pearly whites, and bedtime is a good time to do that. Floss gently around your teeth, and avoid pulling on the edges of the tooth.
Mouthwash: An oral rinse can help deter gum disease by lowering the bacteria in the mouth, but you will want to avoid using a mouthwash containing alcohol.
Dental Cleanings: You will still want to maintain regular professional dental cleanings with Dr. Julia Gorelik and our team. We will make sure to clean any tartar or calculus carefully around your implant to keep gum disease away from your teeth and gums, and especially around the implant. Dr. Gorelik will examine the dental implant restoration to ensure that everything is in top condition and functioning properly.
